Quality Time with the Family

VIDEO

As a side project to the video instalation, Quality Time with the Family exists as a single-channel video that the artist produced using video and audio recorded for the installation.

In an attempt to understand his own identity through genealogy, a man recreates the experience of eating dinner with his family. Because the man is the only member of the family seen, the focus is on his experience of events rather than a larger picture involving the other members of the family. They are heard but not seen. Feelings of isolation and alienation are expressed through the disjointed conversation and subtle interactions that occur. Despite that documented footage of his family is used, it eventually becomes clear this is more of a personal interpretation of events than objective truth.
