In the installation, the notion of disconnection is more obvious as Wood eats a meal live at a dining table surrounding by television
monitors playing each of his family members eating dinner. The feeling of alienation is transferred to the viewer, who is completely
ignored with Wood as he performs his role without ever acknowledging the presence of an audience. This technique is referred to as
"action at a distance." In fact, the audience is not required
to acknowledge him either. His role is more accurately described as a living sculpture than a performer. As such, there is no marked
beginning or end to his action, nor is the viewer required to applaud or even remain for the entirety of the event.
