Speech
The following is the speech given by Owen Eric Wood for the book launch. "There seems to be an energy among artists to make more than just the material object of art. Artists seem intent on creating an experience that connects what they do more directly to the world they live in, to create an experience for viewers that permits them to be more than mere passive observers, to set up an opportunity for art to go beyond the white wall, beyond the art milieu, beyond the object. "As a collection of such art practitioners, our group represents this spirit. Though based in sculptural object making, we all seem to take the position that the object is not enough. We put these things we make in the context of real environments. We defy the material worth of our actions by emphasizing the event of creation over the end product. Our made objects become found objects used as props to tell the stories in our videos and installations. And, in some cases, we substitute the object with our own bodies. "Together we contribute to the ongoing evolution of contemporary sculptural practices by continuing the expansion of its limits." — Owen Eric Wood
